Master Bedroom with Nursery

The master bedroom was the last room in our house to get decorated after we moved in.  I held out on purchasing items until I found exactly what I was looking for.   I knew that I wanted a kind of glam look, but not too gaudy.  I wanted the room to feel like a retreat, one I wanted to sink into at the end of the day.  I didn't tell my husband I had a purple and gold palette, and I tried to keep the lavender hue very neutral (almost gray) to avoid a "girly" look.

I think 3 years later I finally found a headboard (Joss & Main) I liked.  Then even later I added a dresser (Joss & Main)  and nightstands (Wayfair).  Another year after that I added some lamps (Home Goods).    I stumbled across the storage ottomon at Home Good and it was the perfect hue to blend the carpet (that I got in Boston 10 years ago for $79) and pillows.  The sunburst mirror came from Target.

Looking at these pictures now, the room seems so empty and boring.

With baby #3 on the way I had to figure out a way to convert the master bedroom into a fully functioning nursery.  We have an extra bedroom in the house, but it's currently serving as the "craft" room.  It's very full, and that space is important to me and I use it all the time.  Sadly, I didn't want to sacrifice that space for the nursery.  Besides, it's upstairs and not within good hearing or walking range when blindly stumbling around during the night to soothe a crying baby.  We opted to put the crib at the foot of our bed.

The crib, nightstand, and recliner are 10 years old, left over from when Maya was born.  I have to say, the La-Z-Boy recliner was probably the single best purchase of our entire married life.  It is SO comfortable and soft.  It has been dragged around the world and back again, and is in excellent shape, no tears or holes.  Even though it's old, the Ellis crib is still available at Target.  It has been great as well, as it converts from crib to daybed, to full-size headboard and footboard.

The cherry furniture matched very well with the lavender theme of the room, so I went with it.  As much as white is so trendy right now, I love the rich hue of cherry furniture.  The bookcase we had custom made while we lived in Egypt.  Man I miss that "wood guy."  He was a master craftsman (my dad's words) and so cheap!  It was already at the foot of our bed by the recliner.

I just decided to keep the top two shelves with my jewelry as it was and cleared out the books that were on the bottom two shelves to make room for little fingers.  I added board books and a storage bin that is overflowing with stuffies that were so lovingly donated by siblings who couldn't bear to let them go, but could share them with the new baby ;)

As for the crib bedding, the Caden Lane pillow and blanket caught my eye and I love it.  It added another color to my palette, minty turquoise.  The Cloud Island gold dot crib sheets are from Target.  It is much more cost effective to buy cheap sheets that get can get stained and replaced.  I got 3 from my sweet baby shower friends and can rotate them as I need.

The gorgeous paper flowers were my one splurge for this room.  I considered making some myself, but opted out of that stresser!  These came from a talented crafter on Etsy (all the way from Ukraine) and I love them!  I opted to spray paint the stamens gold and put gold glitter spray on the leaves.  They come as single flowers, so you can arrange them however you wish and use as many as you like.

My dresser now serves both me and the baby.  I put a Munchkin changing pad on top with a super soft Trend Lab cover, both from Target.  The STEP diaper pail is on the right.  I'm hoping this one lives up to it's odor-free boast, as it's in my room!  It is hidden behind the door when it's open.

I opted to keep the tray of pretty things and added a few items for the baby as well.  The sweet elephant tray is from Kohls.  All of the baby bracelets are left over from Maya.  Honestly I'm too chicken to use them on my baby for fear of choking, but they do look pretty.  The awesome star headbands came from Brickyard Buffalo.

I added a tiered basket that I spray painted gold.  It holds all the quick grab items needed for changing and after bath.

I split the drawers in the dresser half and half with baby.  I got some drawer organizers from Ikea to maximize the space.

On the top right side I put the diapers and wipes so I can easily grab them with my right hand and hold the baby with my left.

The top middle has swaddlers, baby toys, pacifiers, washcloths, a hooded towel, and burp cloths.

The other top drawer and the whole bottom row has my stuff.  The middle row is all baby clothes.  The only clothes I have hung in my master closet are a few baby dresses.  Everything right now is newborn - 3 months.  I'll swap them out for the larger stuff as she grows.

In  the left side I used more clothes organizers from Ikea to separate short-sleeved onesies, long-sleeved onesies and pajamas.

On the right side I put blankets, and used a 6-compartment organizer to house shoes, socks, headbands/hats, shorts, shirts, and leggings.

And the nesting is complete!  So looking forward to this baby girl and hoping she arrives in the next few days!
